Goulburn Valley Creamery today announced a record opening milk price of up to $8.80 per kilogram of milk solids for 2022-23 for exclusive supply.
According to Chief Executive Officer Mancel Hickey it is higher than the prices currently being offered by other dairy processors in the area, reflecting the company’s wish to reward the premium product of its farmer suppliers.
“Northern Victorian farmers that supply exclusively to us will receive a milk price from $8.50 to $8.80 per kilogram of milk solids,” he explained.
“The majority of our farmers will sit at the higher end of the band.
“It acknowledges the quality of the milk we are sourcing and is part of our philosophy of taking a long-term approach to building strong partnerships with our dairy farmers.”
Goulburn Valley Creamery believes it is important to ensure high quality farmers are rewarded for their premium standards, and can overcome the current challenges being faced by the dairy sector.
“Across the board, many of our dairy farmers are facing multiple economic and seasonal challenges, which are not of their making but must be managed,” Mr Mancel continued.
“By setting a strong, sustainable milk price we are committing our support to ensure they get through these headwinds in a good position and can thrive.”
Goulburn Valley Creamery processes approximately 100 million litres of milk per year from regional farmers to make products which are exported globally.
“We are seeing increased customer demand for our products, so it is important that we look after and grow our supplier farmers.”
The announced prices apply for the 2022-23 year, from 1 July 2022. Farmers interested in supplying to Goulburn Valley Creamery are encouraged to contact Jeff Shannon on 0418 618 426
